Create your table of joy

Hello. Thank you for visiting my website.

I’m Maki.

I make wheel-thrown stoneware tableware at my garden studio in a small Yorkshire town in UK.

My love for tableware is strongly influenced by the food culture from my Japanese background. I’d like my work to be used in daily life and bring joy to your home. Whilst each piece is kept in a simple form to be functional, I love exploring within the surface decoration and colours that create harmony.

Reconnect with your heart

In addition to tableware, I enjoy exploring and expressing human feelings using text message on clay. As each of us go through highs and lows in our life, I hope this will give people a small way to remind us to be gentle, be present and celebrate each steps of our life.

You can find more about the current collections in work page.

My work is available from the online shop, which opens from time to time throughout the year and the shows I take part in UK.

a little background of my journey . . .

I first studied ceramics in 2000, followed by work experience with my late mentor / a studio potter David Constantine White in Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire. Although I then assisted in his studio on an “ad-hoc” basis, I continued my main career as a social support worker over the next decade.

I returned to clay during my degree study in 2009 - 2012, whilst working as a pottery workshop instructor at a local Arts & Crafts Centre for people with disability. I set up my pottery studio in 2012 to start making my work, whilst continuing my teaching job.

I finally became a solely self-employed studio potter in June 2017.
